Doug prepares for the challenge of his life!
Thursday 26th January 2012
Longstanding COCO supporter Douglas Ruddock will shortly be flying to the beautiful country of New Zealand to take on Ironman New Zealand which takes place on the 3rd March.
New Zealand is known as the United Nations of Ironman races and Doug couldn't have chosen a more picturesque location - the stunning shores of Lake Taupo on the North Island.
Doug has been a supporter of COCO for many years and has taken part in events such as the Bristol Half Marathon, an abseil from the Tyne Bridge and most impressive of all - the Kilimanjaro Marathon in 2005! Years later he is back and donating all his sponorship from the Ironman to COCO and to projects like iThemba Lethu in South Africa.
Over the past year Douglas has been training hard with his triathlon club, Peninsula Triathlon Club in Northern Ireland and has even been training in the Alps!
All of us will be following Doug's progress and look forward to seeing the photos from his swim, bike and run!
Speaking about his upcoming adventure Douglas said: "This Ironman NZ challenge I am attempting to do for COCO would not be possible without the help of all the Peninsula Club members. Apart from the financial donations made, for which I am extremely grateful, I would also like to draw special attention to the comradeship of everyone. Not only have you helped me with technique (not working too well in swimming), coaching, training (in all disciplines), mentoring and even the "friendly" car toot on the horn during what what can only be described as inclement weather conditions. A big thanks to all! Cheers, Dougie."
Good luck Dougie!
