This July COCO’s
Finance & Office Coordinator travelled to Tanzania to experience COCO’s
overseas projects first hand.
Gemma
visited some of COCO’s current projects including Mawella School where COCO is
building a toilet block for the over 500 children currently attending the
school. The toilet block is vital to ensuring that the children continue to
attend classes and improve their education.
Gemma also
made contact with several new projects looking for prospective new partners in
the Moshi area and discovered many worthwhile projects, which could flourish
with the help of COCO. One such project included the implementation of a
central kitchen in Majengo, the poorest area of Moshi. The central kitchen
would provide one hot, nutritious meal a day for 6 local nurseries and learning
centres currently providing education to 450 children. One hot meal a day will
make a world of difference to the concentration levels of the children, who
would have otherwise come to school with empty tummies.
One of the
main reasons that Gemma made her visit was to research the need for an Overseas
Accounting Package for small NGO’s. This was greeted with enthusiasm and
anticipation from all involved in the research and Gemma hopes to make a start
with this project in the next few weeks.
“It was
an incredible experience that has helped me to fully understand the impact that
COCO is having on small communities in the region.”
If
you would like further information about COCO’s recent project visits please
don’t hesitate to contact the office.
