Sporting Legends and Businesses Join COCO for a Great Day of Golf
Monday 21st June 2010
On a sun-kissed morning in the heart of Northumberland, a galaxy of sporting legends, celebrities and North East businesses joined Steve Cram and COCO for their 7th Celebrity Golf Day. Set against the backdrop of the magnificent De Vere Slaley Hall, 36 teams enjoyed a round of golf on the Hunting and Priestman courses.
The sun was out and entertainment was provided by celebrities who included English goalkeeper Steve Harper, former Falcon's and rugby union player Andy Buist, three female Olympian's - Shelly Rudman, Karen Pickering and Eve Muirhead and former English Decathlete Daley Thompson.
The event was sponsored by Dunelm and teams in attendance included representatives from legal firms Ward Hadaway and Browell Smith and Co, in addition to Nike, Link Telecom, HSBC, Howie White Resourcing and the University of Sunderland.
The tournament, which was won by Ashes winning cricket star Steve Harmison, raised in excess of £15,000 for COCO. These funds will be used to support projects like iThemba Lethu in Durban, along with other projects in South Africa, Uganda and Kenya, all of which aim to give children who are living in poverty access to a brighter future.
Steve said: "This year's COCO Golf Day at De Vere Slaley Hall was a magical event and I would like to pay huge thanks to all those who participated in helping to raise over £15,000 for COCO.
At this year's tournament we enjoyed the highest ever attendance. The generosity that people show in giving their time and money to support COCO and make for a record breaking event is wonderful, especially when you consider the economic climate.
On the day the golf was played out in beautiful conditions and the evening's entertainments were set on a South African theme in keeping with the World Cup."
Thank you to all of you who attended and supported the day!
