Congratulations to George Parker-Fuller, a dedicated COCO supporter who recently completed the Zurich Ironman for COCO.
George was part of a team of 4 who took part in a 2.4 mile swim in Lake Zurich, 112 mile bike ride along the hills of Switzerland and a 26.2 mile run (a marathon) along the shores of Lake Zurich, all in the same day! It makes you tired just thinking about it!
The Ironman took place on Sunday 25th July and we are happy to announce that George completed the event! Prior to taking part George couldn't swim front crawl, had never ridden a road bike and the furthest he'd run was the Durham Destiny Run, about 3 miles, when he was 11.
The Ironman was a massive achievement for George and all the training since November last year has really paid off. During the latter stages of his preparation George was training for up to 25 hours a week, in between his job and being with his family. The biggest sacrifice he made was to give up alcohol to ensure that his body was finely tuned for the big day!
On Friday 30th July George celebrated with the rest of his team mates at the Dog and Gun pub in Yorkshire and after all the hard work it was great to put his feet up and celebrate his achievement!
To date George has rasied a fantastic £1572 from his Just Giving page and more is expected to follow from fundraising at the celebration.
All of us at COCO are extremely grateful and in admiration of George's hard work and achievement! The funds raised will go towards our projects in countries like Tanzania, South Africa, Uganga, Kenya and Ghana and will see children benefit from an improved education and better healthcare faciliites.
