Hi there! My name is Jade, and I’m a Law student at Newcastle University. I volunteered at COCO between September 2015 and March 2016, as part of a Career Development initiative organised by my university.
My day-to-day tasks involved writing blogs, creating videos and using social media to raise awareness of the brilliant work going on at each of COCO’s projects, and how it is possible to donate to or fundraise in support of COCO’s work. There were lots of other activities that myself and the other volunteers could get involved with too, from helping with the Annual Ball to attending International Development conferences.
What’s really great about volunteering at COCO? Helping to make a real difference! As a member of the Projects team, my role involved letting you guys know how your support is changing lives. COCO’s accomplishments are extremely diverse, ranging from water sanitation to supplying solar lamps, and covering everything in between, so there’s always something amazing going on.
Volunteering at COCO gave me an opportunity to develop skills, particularly with regards to designing graphics and videos. I even learnt how to use social media in a professional manner – who knew you could ‘pin’ a Tweet to the top of your Twitter feed?
I really enjoyed volunteering at COCO. Everyone in COCO’s team both here in the UK and overseas is really friendly, and it’s lovely to meet and work alongside such dedicated people. Volunteers can make such a large contribution, and it is a really worthwhile experience.
