Munanka is 11 years old and is in Class 7 at Maasai Academy in Olorte, a remote village on the border between Tanzania and Kenya.

Munanka's mother is a farmer and sells livestock - cattle, sheep and goats, in order to earn a wage to support her household. Unfortunately Munaka's father died when she was young.

The importance of education is clear to Munanka. She can see how she has benefitted from attending school.  Before starting school she could not read, but now she can. She enjoys school as it allows her to experience many things she would otherwise be unable to, such as learning diverse subjects. In addition to this, at school Munanka is able to socialise and interact with others.

When she is older, Munanka dreams of becoming a pilot - but the main challenge she sees to this being possible is school fees.
