Jess is COCO’s Partnerships Manager. Jess started volunteering for COCO in 2013 and was excited to be offered the chance of becoming a member of staff in June 2016. She works closely with our partners in East Africa to monitor and evaluate programmes and is responsible for heading up our communications. She has also taken part in a number of fundraising events for COCO, including climbing Kilimanjaro, cycling across Kenya, and a bit closer to home taking on Walk the Wall and the Great North Run.
Jess has always been interested in International Development. She volunteered in Uganda while at school and spent a year abroad in South Africa with the organisation Project Trust after finishing school. When she found out about COCO, she jumped at the opportunity to volunteer in the office during university holidays.
She studied International Development and Russian at the University of Leeds, with a particular focus on African development. She recently graduated from Newcastle University with a distinction in an MA in International Politics (Globalisation, Poverty and Development). She wrote her dissertation on COCO's Schools for Life programme, placing the initiative in a global perspective while undertaking research in Southern Tanzania.
