Londoto translates as dreamland, and the stunning background of the mountains of northern Tanzania makes this an appropriate name. Londoto Primary is the school for the small village of the same name, which is home to approximately 500 people. Londoto is located deep in barren, dusty land making it isolated and leading to community members describing themselves as like “forgotten orphans”.
COCO began partnering with Londoto Primary in 2009. The partnership has heralded the construction of four classrooms, to give a total of six, and teachers’ accommodation to help increase the number of teachers from five to nine.
COCO has also invested in food and sanitary facilities at the school through supporting the constructing of a kitchen, store room and toilet block. The construction of the kitchen helped the school qualify for the World Food Programme, meaning that students received a meal of maize and beans each day.
