Optimized-sarah with coco stall-team coco vest

"I've really enjoyed working at COCO, and have been really proud and happy to have been able to help out with some of COCO's projects. I'm still quite chuffed that I was able to be so involved in finding a trekking company for the Everest base camp trek. I also wanted to say thank you for being so helpful over the last two years, whenever I came to you with a problem you were always very nice and helped me sort out what needed to be done."

- Ian, former volunteer

Volunteers are the life and soul of the office at COCO and we would be lost without them. Last year, 45 volunteers donated over 2,500 hours of their time to COCO, worth over £25,000! We simply could not do what we do without our skilled volunteers, who assist COCO with everything from data entry to social media.

The majority of our current volunteers are from Newcastle University, who come to us to progress their career through increased responsibility and confidence, but anyone is welcome to apply. If you are interested in volunteering at COCO, there are some current vacancies below and the link to our form is here.

Please be warned, our volunteer placements come with autonomy and responsibility - you won’t be making the tea (unless you offer)!

Volunteer Roles:

Data Administration volunteer

To keep COCO organised! Responsibilities could include data input, recording financial information, completing data analysis and enhancing the quality of data collection in line with GDPR. A good level of customer service is required for communicating with people and organisations on our database via telephone and email.

Fundraising Administration volunteer

Helping to raise the vital funds needed for COCO's work to continue. Responsibilities could include helping to organise one of COCO's existing fundraising events, such as our Ball, Celebrity Golf Day or overseas challenges, or assisting with enquiries into new events and fundraising opportunities. A good level of customer service is required for contacting our donors, suppliers and key stakeholders on the telephone and via email.

Marketing and Communications volunteer

Working to raise the profile of COCO online and through printed media. Responsibilities could relate to curating COCO’s social media sites, updating COCO's website, and producing various electronic and printed communications. Creativity with an eye for detail are important for this role, and experience of digital marketing or website design is desirable but not necessary.

Overseas Projects Volunteer

Assisting with the coordination of COCO's projects. Responsibilities could include assessing and reporting on the impact of COCO's projects, processing requests for COCO to work with communities and partners, and compiling case studies based on current partners. An inquisitive mind and interest in International Development will be helpful in this role.
