About COCO
Founded by former Olympian, Steve Cram in 2000, COCO is an international children’s charity working with local communities in remote regions of the developing world to alleviate the poverty preventing children’s education. Steve’s vision for COCO began with a 55 mile run in Sarajevo in 1998 when he and a handful of Army officers sought to raise vital funds for a community blighted by the effects of conflict. The following year Steve took part in the famous South African Comrades Marathon and after raising over £12,000 for children in Liberia, Comrades of Children Overseas (COCO) was born.COCO focuses on working with communities in regions that often go unnoticed by others and where our assistance will make the biggest difference possible. This commitment to small, sustainable, life changing projects is fundamental to our values and enables COCO to deliver projects that are specific to the needs of the communities.
Currently COCO works in East Africa, Ghana and South Africa and, since it was founded in 2000, has raised over £2.5 million. Last year alone, COCO’s projects positively impacted on the lives of over 15,000 people.
Our Projects
Currently COCO is working with 10 project partners in Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa and Ghana with a hope to expand our work into Kenya and Rwanda when funding permits.Find out more about the communities we work with by clicking here.
