A crucial kitchen makeover!

Niaver Nursery and Community Centre is getting a much-needed kitchen renovation, thanks to the generosity of our amazing supporters. The school had to close the kitchen suddenly due to new government requirements, but now we're turning this challenge into a wonderful opportunity. 

We are upgrading the structure of the kitchen from corrugated iron to locally sourced bricks, we're adding piped water, and we're transforming the spaces used for cooking! 

With the new facilities, Niaver will ensure a clean and safe environment for the 80 students to enjoy two nutritious meals every day. School meals play a crucial role in the well-being and development of children. Here are some key reasons why school meals are essential:  

• Enhanced Learning: Well-fed children are better able to concentrate, participate, and perform academically. Proper nutrition is linked to improved attention spans and higher energy levels, which facilitate better learning outcomes. 

• Increased Attendance: Offering meals at school encourages regular attendance. When children know they will receive meal breaks, they are more likely to come to school consistently. 

• Support for Families: School meals alleviate some of the financial burden on families, ensuring that their children are fed even during tough economic times. 

• Local Economy: Niaver’s feeding programme sources food locally, providing a market for local farmers and contributing to the local economy. 

By providing school meals, COCO is investing in the future of Kenyan children, ensuring they have the energy and opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
