COCO’s mission is to provide sustainable sources of quality education to children living in poor and marginalised communities in East Africa. We work in partnership with local organisations to develop community owned and run schools, which provide excellent quality education in a sustainable way, to reduce reliance on external support and empower the community to be able to lift themselves out of poverty. Alongside supporting the development of the school, we support parents and caregivers to increase their income to be able to better meet the basic needs of their children by providing sustainable agriculture training and small loans.
We believe that a quality education provides children with the skills and knowledge to reach their full potential. Training in vocational skills, encouraging creativity and confidence, and teaching social skills are prioritised alongside ensuring academic quality. Our beneficiaries are some of the most disadvantaged children, living in communities with non-existent or inadequate educational opportunities. We encourage equality of access, promoting the education of girls in areas where traditionally girls do not go to school. We prioritise capacity building and local ownership, to promote sustainability and longevity, and to put the needs of the children and beneficiaries first.
