Double your donations!

This year we are very excited to be taking part in The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge. Donate through The Big Give between Tuesday 27th of November and Tuesday 4th December and your donation will be doubled (up to £4,000)!

We are hoping to raise £8,000 throughout The Big Give week, to build a new classroom for our Hoja Higher Education (HE) project. The new Teacher Training and Learning Centre which is currently being developed will provide an opportunity for students graduating from secondary school to continue their studies to advanced level (A-Level equivalent) in academic and vocational subjects, as well as teacher training.

Our Schools for Life programme provides quality education up to Form Four (GCSE equivalent), but after leaving there are very few opportunities for graduates to continue their education, especially for children from poor backgrounds. Hoja HE is the next piece in the puzzle to ensure these students can continue learning and achieve their dreams.

There is also a lack of qualified teachers in remote areas, and many of those that are qualified aren’t trained to a high standard. Hoja HE will spread quality teaching beyond our partner Schools for Life, improving the quality of education across the region.

The centre currently has a lecture hall, toilets and an administration block. A food forest has also been established to grow food to generate an income for the centre, and eventually to be used to feed students.  To get the ball rolling and open the centre, a classroom block is needed, as well as equipping the centre with books and learning resources and paying for official government registration. Any excess funds raised in The Big Give campaign will be invested in other parts of the centre.

Our 2018 Christmas challenge is over, watch this space for our 2019 appeal
